Test Run (pt2)

So just as quick as I was gone, I'm back! Had a fabulous weekend in Philadelphia and had an epic brunch with a wonderful group of ladies.

Woke up and met up with Erica and we ran warmed up about 2 miles to the start of the race. The course that the NERRC 25k Marathon Tune Up ran was somewhat similar to the marathon course, but  there were some differences. Regardless I was really happy to be able to run up Kelly Drive, along the river, watch the rowers, and take in all the beautiful fall colors. I couldn't help but think about how all those trees will probably be bare the next time I run by there! There was maybe one hill on the course that I thought I would notice, especially because it would be coming after the halfway point. But again, it was all pretty darn flat. FInished in 2:12 and some seconds. The first 2-3 miles I ran slower, and then every split after that was in the 9:50-10:10 range. I finished feeling pretty spent, but at the same token I was still tempted to run back to the hotel. (Gladly, I came to my senses and got a ride back from Vee!)

I wish I could say that NOW I feel a lot more prepared, but it's just not true. I have my last 20 mile run this weekend and then I TAPER. My nerves are already getting to me, and knowing I still have four weeks I'm trying to calm them down quick so I don't spend the next four weeks in a panic!

I can't possibly think about all the things I could have done, or should have done. I need to think about all the 16, 18, and 20 milers I've run. I need to think about how much of my heart I've poured into this, how sweet crossing that finish line will be. Expect the unexpected (heck, it was 72 degrees in Philly this weekend!), embrace the nerves, take a deep breath, and RUN.

Gonna hit my first 40+ mile week this week, and take a deep breath, and then just maybe, relax.

  1. Sam- you were seriously awesome this weekend! You are definitely ready for 11/21!!!
Realized this morning that between last year's half marathon and yesterdays half, I've pretty much run the entire course. Only hill that I felt was between mile 9 & 10 which we didn't get to run yesterday. And even that one is nothing compared to Cardiac Hill in CP.
Can't believe we have one more long run before taper time!!!

  2. Great job Samantha. You'll be great. You have done a lot of work. Trust your trainng.

  3. I'm happy to know I always have your support in drowning ;)

  4. I am excited about your upcoming marathon. It will be a blast. You are going to rock this. I know it. See you next month !
